ONE of Michael Jackson's trademark white rhinestone gloves is expected to fetch up to $30,000 at auction today.

Marketed with the slogan "From the greatest pop icon the world has ever known, comes an iconic piece of pop memorabilia", the right-handed spandex glove was made famous in the video for Billie Jean.

Bonhams & Goodman Auctioneers' national head of collectables Giles Moon said it was the first time one of Jackson's gloves had been offered at auction in Australia, or since the entertainer's death in June.

Mr Moon said he expected the auction, to be held in Melbourne, would attract a bidding war, given interest from overseas.

The glove's owner is Mavis Hibble, 79, from Sydney. Mavis's son, Bill, who passed away a few years ago, caught the glove when Jackson threw it after the premiere of his movie, Ghosts, in Sydney in 1996.

A Rotary Club fund-raising program signed by Jackson in Sydney will also be auctioned and is estimated to be worth up to $1500.
