Can I buy ETFs with InvestSMART?
Question
I am setting up a SMSF with a view to invest in a range of the Investsmart portfolios.
As a money magazine subscriber for nearly 20 years now, I would also like to add some other ETF's most of which I have extracted from articles in the money magazine over time.
Does the Investsmart PMA allow you to purchase these or do I need to uitilise a broker like Comsec and then list them in my portfolio? I want to minimise the accounts I open for the SMSF. Thanks Gary - Submitted by Gary
Answer
When you create a Professionally Managed Account (PMA) at InvestSMART, you can invest in our range of InvestSMART managed portfolios and the Intelligent Investor funds.
This includes the InvestSMART diversified, capped-fee managed portfolios and the Intelligent Investor funds.
We are not a broker, which means you cannot purchase and hold other ETFs in your PMA.
You would need to open a brokerage account to purchase those other ETFs. However, with that brokerage account, you can also buy the Intelligent Investor funds as they trade as ETFs on the ASX. I've listed them below along with their ASX stock ticker:
